Rani Mukerji Chopra is currently busy promoting her upcoming film, Mardaani 2. In it, Chopra plays the role of a cop who’s out to catch a rapist and sex offender. The film is a sequel to the 2014 Mardaani, which received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success. During one of the promotional events of the film, Chopra opted for a grey, floral-print churidaar kurta and dupatta. While she kept her accessories to a minimum, she sported smokey, bold eyes and nude lips. Now, if you have been wondering if you might have come across something similar in the recent past, you’re not wrong.
On November 15th, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh celebrated their first wedding anniversary by paying a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar. While Padukone wore a gorgeous, maroon outfit, Ranveer opted for a floral print churidaar kurta in a beautiful champagne pink colour. He paired it with a bandhgala jacket. Now, his outfit is the same as the one Rani Mukerji Chopra was seen wearing, except the difference in colours. And guess what? We’re loving both the looks.
Ranveer Singh is one of the very few Bollywood actors who has successfully blurred the lines between men’s and women’s clothing. He’s known for his eclectic sartorial choices that have often put him in the limelight. At a time when gender-fluid fashion is being discussed globally, it’s important to have popular stars show that it is society that has defined gendered clothes. While women have adopted androgynous clothing, thanks to a partriachal society that didn’t take women seriously if they didn’t dress like men, we still have trouble accepting a man wearing a saree or anything remotely feminine. However, all that is changing and we’re here for it.
