Vasant Panchami is a Hindu occasion. It is celebrated to welcome the spring. It is a very important and it is Vasant Panchami is celebrated on a big scale all over India. The word Vasant means spring and the word Panchami means the 5th day from Hindu calendar. Vasant Panchamiis a very significant day; it is a popular believe that on this day Goddess Saraswati was born. Vasant Panchami is also known as BasantPanchami.

Vasant Panchami is celebrated in the month of March or February. The importance of Vasant Panchami is to worship Saraswati,it’s one of the Goddess. The history tells us that this occasion was started when Aryan came into the subcontinent and settled near the river Sarswatti and thought that this rivers God for us because it is giving everything to such good, shelter and clothing so they named their goddess after the river.

With time this way of celebrating festival Vasant Panchami became different.  Now days this festival is celebrated by the farmers when the spring is coming. People celebrate Vasant Panchami with a great enthusiasm. Yellow is the color of Vasant Panchami. The ritual of this occasion is to wear yellow color clothes, eat that food which has a yellow color like saffron rice, flowers like sunflowers are being given on this festive occasion.  Vasant Panchami festival means yellow color because this color is the color of purity, prosperity and love.

Kite flying is the important tradition of Vasant Panchami.  From old to young everyone loves to fly kites on this festival. There are different competitions of kite flying. People go on roof tops and do kite flying. Vasant Panchamiis not just about flying kites but on this day there are lots of competition of art, paintings and music. This festival is done in the honor of the Goddess Saraswati.

Vasant Panchami is a very important day for Hindu because their children are taught to read and write their first words on this day. From this festival the school session starts from the month of March. On this day which is called Vasant Panchami different types of sweet are circulated and many people contribute their books and other material related to studies to poor children.  During this occasion pencils, pens and books are placed near the goddess feet so that can be blessed before they goes to students.  On this day some school makesa special prayer for their goddess Saraswatti. On this day, Hindu guru named Pandit Madan Malaviya laid the foundation of an educational institution.

The tradition of Vasant Panchami is that people make a special dinner in which there is KesarHalwa and yellow color is also added in it. People even give this special halwa to their relatives, friends and neighbor because this is really special. On Vasant Panchami, the Goddess Saraswati is dressed in the color yellow. Many people go to temples to worship their goddess. This is a religious day for the Hindu community. Yellow is the color of this day. On this day everything is supposed to be yellow.

Many people believe that this is a very lucky day. On this day people start their new business, they start all the good work they have planned. Vasant Panchmiis a holy day.  NowadaysVasant Panchami is celebrated with great joy. Kite flying has become the major part of this tradition. These days’ young boys plans so much about this festival. There is a new trend now that people start celebrating Vasant Panchami from the night. Young boys get lots of kites, they do kite flying completion. Yellow lighting is done on the roofs.

Vasant Panchami has now become commercial. This event is now being celebrated on a large scale. This festival is celebrated on the roof tops of hotels and in parks. People fly kites, eat a lot and do a lot of fun with their family and friends.
